Mental health Awareness Week

"I always try to cheer myself up by singing when I get sad. Most of the time, it turns out that my voice is worse than my problems." - Minion

Mental Health Awareness Week is a significant event in the global mental health calendar, taking place during the last week of May each year. This year, it falls on May 13 - 19, 2024. This week is dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and wellbeing, reducing stigma, and providing support to those struggling with mental health issues. As we are coming near to the most awaited week dedicated to mental health, why not talk about its meaning, how important it is and theme for this year.

Hello and welcome thinkers, Mental health is an essential part of our overall health and wellbeing, yet it is often overlooked or stigmatized. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly 1 billion people worldwide are living with a mental disorder, and 3 million people die each year due to the harmful use of alcohol. The COVID-19 pandemic has also exacerbated mental health issues, with many people experiencing increased anxiety, depression, and other mental health problems.

Mental Health Awareness Week is an opportunity to raise awareness about these issues, educate the public, and provide support to those who need it. By breaking the stigma surrounding mental health, we can create a more supportive and inclusive society where people feel comfortable seeking help and support.

The theme for Mental Health Awareness Week 2024, "Moving More for Our Mental Health," emphasizes the profound impact of physical activity on mental well-being. Engaging in regular physical exercise has been shown to reduce stress, alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, and enhance overall mental health. By encouraging individuals to prioritize physical activity, this year's theme aims to promote holistic well-being and empower individuals to take proactive steps towards better mental health.

What to do this year, to celebrate mental health awareness week?

It would be a great chance to organize a mental health run within your community, society or friends. Go out to your counsellor or take a break for your mental health and enjoy the whole week doing activities that you love to facilitate your mental health. Events: Host outdoor activities or events that promote physical movement and social interaction. Spending time outdoors has been shown to reduce stress and improve mental well-being. Consider organizing field days, team-building activities, or outdoor relaxation sessions to boost morale and mental health. Create a gratitude jar for you and your friends to express gratitude and recognition towards each other. Encouraging positive interactions and building supportive relationships that can contribute to a healthier and more inclusive work environment.

Mental Health Awareness Week is an opportunity to take proactive steps towards better mental health and promote holistic well-being. Let us all do our part in creating a mentally healthy society.
